Floral Coffees
Floral coffees taste the way flowers smell. Jasmine, rose, lavender, hibiscus, honeysuckle, and the occasional blossom-honey sweetness — perfumed, light-bodied, and unmistakably aromatic from the first sniff of the cup. Showing roasters shipping from ANZ.
The floral profile is associated above all with Ethiopian heirloom varieties grown at altitude — Yirgacheffe washed, Bench Maji washed, certain Guji and Sidamo lots — and with Gesha (also spelled Geisha) varietal grown in Panama, Colombia, and Ecuador. Light roasting is essential; medium and darker roasts cook the volatile aromatics off and leave a generic-tasting cup.
Floral coffees brew best as a slow filter pour-over with paper that strips fines aggressively, or as a clean Chemex. Keep the water just under boil and the ratio loose (1:16 to 1:17) — over-extracted floral coffee tastes hollow and bitter where it should taste like perfume. These bags are usually the most expensive in any roaster's lineup, especially Gesha, and they reward attention.
Floral is the collection to go to when you want a single-origin coffee that delivers a moment, not just a caffeine fix.
