Higher Grounds grew out of co-founder Chris Treter's 2001 post-graduate work alongside coffee farmers at the Maya Vinic cooperative in Chiapas, Mexico. Now a Fair Trade certified, B Corp roaster and cafe in Traverse City, Michigan, it sources mostly organic coffee and won Good Food Awards in 2017 and 2022.
