Monotono opened on 1 July 2024 on Jirón Fedelli in Barranco, Lima, founded by Piero Alva and Hibeth Rodríguez as a room where the coffee is the only thing on show. Alva roasts every lot in-house in a light Nordic style, favouring Peruvian nanolots from Cajamarca and Cusco alongside guest origins from Ethiopia, Kenya and Colombia. It was named Lima's best specialty café at the 2025 Lima Experience competition and placed 23rd on the World's 100 Best Coffee Shops 2026 list. Bags of the current roasts, brewing gear and its Aureus single-origin edition are sold through its online shop.
