Highlights
“Eugene 'Don Gene' Altieri planted his first coffee in Boquete more than 20 years ago and sourced his Geisha seed directly from the Peterson family of Hacienda La Esmeralda. The farm is now run by his children Anna Lynn and Francisco with farm manager Roger Pitti, and the DILGO plot - named after one of Don Gene's grandchildren - sits at 1,780 metres on the slopes of the Baru Volcano as the first MIMA Estates lot planted with Geisha. Cherries were hand-picked at full ripeness, floated and pulped, then fermented in their mucilage for 18 hours with wild yeast before washing and drying about seven days on African beds in a sunlit greenhouse. Sweet and juicy, with nectarine, violet, plum, lychee and mandarin.”
