Caffe Ladro was founded in Seattle in 1994 by Jack Kelly and Bob Ohly, who named it 'coffee thief' in Italian after opening their first cafe beside a Starbucks. In 2002 it became the first multi-unit US chain to sell 100% fair-trade coffee, and it added in-house roasting in 2010.
