Tips & Preparation
- Moka pot, also called stove top espresso, uses pressurized water and a strong coffee to water ratio to make an espresso-like beverage at home.
- Use finely ground coffee, finer than pourover but not as fine as espresso machine.
- Start with hot, filtered water in the bottom chamber, filling to just below the release valve.
- Fill the brew basket with coffee, tapping it lightly to even it out, but not packing it down.
- The important thing is that the chamber is filled.
- Variations: Drink as is, add hot water for an Americano, or add warm milk for a latte.
Recipe Steps
Fill the bottom chamber with hot, filtered water to just below the release valve.
Fill the brew basket with finely ground coffee, tapping it lightly to even it out.
Place the bottom chamber on the stove to heat the water until some movement and small bubbles are visible.
Carefully remove the bottom chamber from the stove and quickly drop in the brew basket.
Attach the top chamber tightly.
Replace the Moka pot on the stove and turn down the heat a little.
