Highlights
“Lebudu Kraik means lower wetlands, a name drawn from this group's position along the mountainside in Ducurai, a high-elevation village in Timor-Leste's Ermera municipality just north of Mount Tatamailau. Ten smallholder families make up the group, farming plots of 0.5 to 1.5 hectares where many typica trees have been tended for decades, growing tall beneath the shade of evergreen she-oaks. Harvest is selective and by hand, with long wooden ramps leaned against the trees to reach the canopy. Processing happens at household level: pulping and fermenting in small containers, then drying on raised beds with careful sorting throughout. The group works with Café Brisa Serena, a Timorese social enterprise and exporter that has spent a decade building specialty production, traceability and quality control across the region. Utopian roasts it medium - crème brûlée sweetness, a juicy mandarin lift, and a pecan-pie finish.”
