Highlights
“El Caracol is a 150-manzana farm (255 acres) in the mountains of Chalatenango, El Salvador, owned by Jose Barahona. He grew up in Santa Teresa harvesting coffee, corn and other crops with his family before buying his own farm, and later built a portfolio of businesses in the United States, including a chain of fast-food restaurants around Washington DC, while staying tied to his home community: he helped fund a local elementary school and still awards scholarships. The farm produces washed, honey and natural coffees from Bourbon, Pacas and Pacamara. This natural lot is full-bodied and rich, ripe plum over the crispness of Bartlett pear with a honeycomb sweetness.”
