“Mrs. Tigest Wako is a coffee producer from Idedo, Gedeo, one of two premier localities renowned for top-tier Yirgacheffe coffee. In a region where land inheritance traditionally passes to male children and the average plot is just one hectare, she defies the norm as a rare female landowner managing the 7.6-hectare farm she inherited from her parents. She has modernised the estate by replacing older varieties such as Kurume and Dega with the high-performing 74110 and 74112 cultivars, JARC selections developed at Jimma in 1974, with the support of her husband Abraham, a pastor and coffee supplier. This naturally processed lot from her farm is clean and mellow.”
