Highlights
“Kariani Coffee Factory sits on the slopes between Mount Kinangop and the Aberdare Range, where red volcanic soils and a cool, humid climate have supported coffee since the factory opened in 1968. It belongs to the Thanga-ini Farmers' Cooperative Society, which counts more than 5,350 members; over 600 of them deliver cherry to Kariani, mostly from plots of 200 to 300 trees. Only deep-red ripe cherries are accepted, then pulped with a disc pulper, fermented for 12 to 24 hours and dried for 10 to 22 days on raised African beds. The lot blends Ruiru 11, SL28 and SL34 grown at roughly 1,500 metres.”
