Highlights
“Finca El Socorro sits in Placentia, Guatemala, and has taken first place at the Cup of Excellence four times with its Gesha. The property was reclaimed by Dr. Mario de la Cerda and Maria Colom de la Cerda in 1968; their son Juan began cultivating coffee in 1980, and today Juan de la Cerda and his son Juan Diego carry the fourth generation. Maracaturra, a Caturra and Maragogipe cross, grows oversized beans with unusual complexity here. El Socorro wet-mills with hot water to standardise fermentation, then dries on patios and in greenhouses, which keeps the florals and bright fruit intact. Sold as whole beans in an 8 oz bag at US$26.”
