Highlights
“Abdo Aba Mecha farms in Agaro, western Ethiopia, at 2,000 to 2,100 masl, growing the 74110 and 74112 landraces. He is part of the Tokuma group, a collection of smallholders who hold their own export licenses and market lots made exclusively from cherries they grow themselves, rather than buying from neighbours or selling through the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange. That model gives unusual traceability for Ethiopia and lets the group keep production costs low. Rowan bought his coffee last year as a component of their Embassy blend and returns this harvest with two single origin lots, washed and natural. The washed lot was a surprise for a western Ethiopian coffee: it keeps the region's waxy oolong and white tea character but pushes the fruit and florals much louder, with a juicy texture. Rowan also works with Mensur Abahika from the same group after Mohammed Aba Nura's harvest ran into severe problems.”
