Highlights
“Kiandu is a washing station in the Tetu area of Nyeri County, on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya, run by the Mutheka Farmers Cooperative Society and locally known as Kiandu FCS. Around 806 smallholders deliver cherry to the factory, 242 of them women, growing SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11 and Batian between 1,700 and 1,810 m on volcanic soil. Processing is the traditional fully washed route with double fermentation: pulping, an overnight dry ferment, grading channels, a 24-48 hour soak and slow drying on raised African beds with repeated hand sorting. Rose recommends resting the coffee at least four weeks before brewing.”
