Highlights
“Chelba is a washing station named for the nearby village, about 12 km from Yirgacheffe town. More than 800 smallholder producers, most farming around two hectares, deliver cherry from within a three-kilometre radius; as is typical in Ethiopia the station blends that cherry into day lots, washes it and dries it on raised beds. Farmers in the area generally work without fertilizers or pesticides. The result is a classic washed Yirgacheffe: orange blossom and strawberry jump out of the bag, and the cup runs through peach, watermelon, honey and chocolate to a finish of honeydew, blueberry, lime and jasmine.”
