Highlights

“Sakami is the Trans-Nzoia farm of Gloria and Jarmo Gummerus, first planted in 2010 and farmed with an unusual focus on variety separation — this AA lot is made up of SL28 alone. Around fifty women working on the farm are organising to register as an official group, setting aside contributions each month toward the 10,000 shillings needed for registration, and Gloria's business serves as an example for women around her. The farm intercrops macadamia between the coffee, protects the indigenous trees and wetland, keeps beehives, avoids pesticides and herbicides, and returns worm castings and treated pulping water to the fields. Cupped blind on a table of Kenyan coffees, the AA and AB were chosen as the first and second preferences.”
