“Between 2003 and 2004 the Figueroa Sandoval siblings founded the Enrique Figueroa Foundation, named for their father, to protect and improve the fragile mountain terrain around Metapan. They bought land beside Montecristo National Park, found coffee plants over a century old in one hectare, and left the remaining reserve - running from 1,900 to 2,200 metres - free for salamanders, quetzals, curassows, spotted felines, pines and oaks. Sixteen springs on the property feed around 2.5 million cubic metres of water into the San Miguel Ingenio river basin. This washed field blend from El Guamilar carries that same hands-off, conservation-first approach into the cup.”
