Highlights
“Kegwa Coffee Factory was built in 1960 to process cherries from four villages in Gichugu, Kirinyaga, and now operates under the Ngiriambu Farmers Cooperative Society with roughly 1,400 registered smallholders, about 1,000 of whom deliver to Kegwa each year. Cherries are hand-sorted, depulped and fermented overnight, washed and soaked, then dried 8-15 days on raised African beds, with wastewater treated in pits set away from the Nyamindi River. Philocoffea extended the roast to about ten minutes and finished just before second crack to build body while keeping some fruit.”
