“Imbalu is a microlot from Norman Mukuru's The Coffee Yard in Mount Elgon's foothills, exported by The Coffee Gardens in its second year of partnership. The name nods to the Bagisu rite of passage: legend has it the cherries were left unattended during the Imbalu celebrations and began to ferment, which led to dry-processing instead of the traditional washed method. The result is a sweet, distinctive natural anaerobic profile from 1,800 to 2,000 meters.”
