Highlights
“Kii is one of three washing stations run by the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society, founded in 1997 and also operating Karimikui and Kiangoi in Kirinyaga. The station takes its name from the river beside it, whose cold mountain water is used for washing. Hundreds of smallholders deliver cherry here, each farming around a third of a hectare with roughly 400 trees and hand-picking only ripe cherries; the plots run from 1,310 to 1,900 masl on red volcanic soils.”
