Highlights
“Emerson Felipe Narváez is a 33-year-old, second-generation producer from Cumbitara, Nariño, who chose specialty coffee in a region often dominated by illegal crops. He started with 3.5 hectares and almost no resources, moved alone to the farm, and once paid 1.5 million pesos for a single kilo of Geisha seeds. Today Finca El Turpial spans 30 hectares at 2,200 metres, and his coffees have placed first, second and third in the Mi Nariño competition across different years. He is a fermentation obsessive: pickers harvest the Geisha into GrainPro bags to carry the farm's own microbes to the processing plant, where the ripe cherries ferment dry for 48 hours. They are then pulped and fermented anaerobically in mucilage for another 48, washed with every floater removed, and dried on African beds. The cup shows cherry and white peach with a honeyed sweetness.”
