“Kii Factory is operated by Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society, located in Kenya's renowned coffee-growing region of Kirinyaga. The factory serves around 1,215 active smallholder members. Coffee has been grown in this area since 1953, and today the average producer manages around 400 coffee trees on roughly one-third of a hectare. At Kii, ripe cherries are delivered to the factory as soon as they are picked, then sorted, depulped, and fermented overnight. The coffee is then washed with fresh river water and graded through washing channels before being dried slowly in full sun on raised beds.”
