“The Giakanja Washing Station was established in 1968 shortly after Kenya's independence in Nyeri County. The name comes from the colonial era — Gichagi gia Kanja meaning 'the village belonging to Kanja.' Processing cherries from farms at 1700-1800 MASL between Mt. Kenya and the Aberdare Range, where cool temperatures slow cherry maturation and concentrate sugars.”
