“This stellar Natural Bourbon from the pioneering women's empowerment group Rama Dufatanemunda represents years of persistence by women fighting for land rights in Burundi. Marie-Annonciate organized women near Mubuga washing station to pursue land tenure. With support from Kahawatu Foundation and Greenco, the women trained in Good Agricultural Practices and established financial savings. Average yields increased from 0.7kg to nearly 2kg per tree. The first harvest came in 2017 after two years of preparation. Cherries are delivered to Mubuga, floated, hand sorted, and dried on raised beds over 3-4 weeks.”
