“Taba is a village in north-east Rwanda, about three hours from Kigali, on the red lateritic soils and tropical rainfall that suit specialty coffee. Coffee Village, founded by Tom Bagaza and his wife Sylvia, grows Bourbon only and has built organic practice into everything from cultivation to processing: no chemicals, and a reforestation programme. The company also invests in the surrounding growers — beehives to strengthen the ecosystem and add income, goats for milk, meat and natural fertiliser — and plans a nursery at the sorting station to widen access to work. L'Alchimiste's Arthur and Charline visited in July 2025; the cup is silky and juicy, prune, mirabelle and vanilla, roasted in Bordeaux.”
