Highlights
“Janeiro sits in the Cauca department around Popayán and Inza, one of Colombia's best-known coffee regions: 1 880 m, close to the equator, sheltered from Pacific humidity by the surrounding mountains, with stable weather and volcanic soil. The 15-hectare farm holds 50,000 trees and is young — six years old, started by Francisco with his mother and brother, who turned to exporter Banexport for guidance and were steered toward a double fermentation and a better-ventilated drying process. Decaffeination uses ethyl acetate extracted from sugarcane, which strips caffeine without stripping flavour; the cup is comforting brown sugar with a lightly spicy texture. Since 2024 the coffee travels to Bordeaux by sail under the Fresh Coffee Clean Ocean project.”
