“Kiawamururu washing station is part of the Rumukia Farmers Cooperative Society in Mukurwe-ini, Nyeri County, Kenya. Situated between 1700-1850 meters on volcanic red soils, the station serves approximately 1000 smallholder farmers growing SL28, SL34, Batian and Ruiru 11. The washed process involves 16-24 hour wet fermentation, overnight soaking, and 21 days of sun-drying on raised beds. The cooperative invests in agronomy training, soil conservation, and an education fund for members' children.”
