“Liu Jingbo began planting SL28 at Ruru Estate in the forested hills of Pu'er, Yunnan, in 2010, bringing a variety tied to East Africa into southwestern China. The estate runs SL28 several ways, including natural, honey and washed; this is the natural, dried as whole cherries before the dried fruit was removed. SL28 itself was selected at Scott Agricultural Laboratories in Kenya in the 1930s, is genetically related to Bourbon, and is known for drought tolerance and high cup quality at altitude. At Ruru it grows between 1,350 and 1,420 masl, and Hydrangea roasts it light: green apple candy, green plum and calamansi.”
