Highlights
“Nueva Florida is a small community in Rio Negro, Satipo province, in the high jungle of Junín, Peru. The Ramos Ccoillar family came from Huancavelica, where potato farming had been undone by drought, failed harvests and debt to the agricultural bank; the eldest son Florentino left for the high jungle, bought a piece of land and named it La Nueva Florida – the new bloom – and planted his first coffee trees there just over twenty years ago. Relatives followed, and today the families farm between two and six hectares each, with coffee growing under shade and fruit trees. The community is certified organic (SE-EKO-04). Cherries are fermented for 18-22 hours in open cement tanks, washed with clean water and dried on raised beds under UV shade between July and September; this lot is 3,500 kg. It is the sixth harvest Gringo has bought from Nueva Florida, and in 2024 Saturnina and Florentino visited the roastery in Gothenburg.”
