Highlights
“Gititu Farmers Cooperative Society was founded in 1954 and its washing station, the first in the cooperative, sits just north of Nairobi in Kiambu on the Aberdare slopes, where the plots run 1,600-1,700 m and the deep, well-drained red nitisols let cherries ripen slowly. The cooperative now runs eight washing stations with more than 7,000 members, and it takes members along to the Nairobi Coffee Exchange auctions so they can see how their coffee is sold. Cherries are hand-picked, visually sorted and water-graded before a double wash and sun drying on raised beds; this is a 300 kg lot from the December 2025 harvest.”
