“Hulikere Estate sits in the Baba Budan Giri hills of Chikkamagaluru district, Karnataka, where Shreedev and Sushmita Hulikere farm the third generation of a family that has worked the same land for five. Fifteen years ago the estate went fully chemical-free, and the coffee now grows in shade among pepper, ginger, avocado and citrus; 204 bird species, dhole, leopard and tiger have been recorded on the farms. Cherries are picked at peak ripeness and dried whole on raised beds in the sun before going to the family's own pulping mill in Chikkamagaluru. Gringo has roasted this lot in five consecutive harvests.”
