Highlights
“Finca Agua Tibia has belonged to the Castillo family since 1886, when the land supplied firewood to the family brewery; cattle arrived in the 1930s and made it one of Guatemala's leading livestock farms for seventy years. Coffee was first planted in the 1950s, reached about 112 hectares in the 1980s, and only in 2012 did the family commit fully to coffee. Today some 300 of its 1,530 hectares are planted, alongside avocado, maize and ornamental plants, with 465 hectares of native forest and another 400 of production woodland left standing. Erick de la Roca, fourth generation, has run the day-to-day operation since 2011 from the Fraijanes plateau just outside Guatemala City. Geisha and Pacamara were only planted in 2019; this 96 kg microlot is Geisha, hand-picked fully ripe, fermented about 48 hours in tanks, washed and dried for two weeks on the patio.”
