Highlights
“This lot comes from the Jagong Mill and the family farms around it, in the Takengon and Atu Lintang coffee region of Aceh province on Sumatra. Irham Junus runs the mill with his son Andi and daughter Ina, and the family keeps control of processing and milling all the way to export — a short chain that H&S credits with avoiding the quality compromises of Sumatran supply lines. Cherry is picked selectively ripe and wet-hulled the traditional way, the parchment hulled while the bean is still wet, which is what gives Sumatra its famously deep body. The result is a rustic, syrupy cup with dark chocolate and molasses sweetness and a lift of black cherry. Farm: Jagong Mill. Region: Takengon, Aceh. Variety: Bourbon, Typica, Catimor. Process: Wet hulled. Elevation: 1,300 m.”
