“Leuser sits in the Aceh region of Sumatra, where fugol sources this lot from mixed varieties grown at 1,550 masl. It is processed wet hulled, the Sumatran method that removes parchment while the bean is still soft, which is where the region's heavy body and low acidity come from. Fugol, founded in Bandung in 2019 by John Christopher, built its identity on Nusantara-origin coffee and took fifth place at the 2022 World Brewers Cup. The cup shows citrus, spice and brown sugar, an espresso-leaning Sumatra that keeps the earthy weight while adding a cleaner sweet edge.”
