“Herbal Garcia is a second-generation producer in San José Vista Hermosa, in the Sierra Mazateca of northern Oaxaca. A school teacher until about four years ago, he inherited several plots when his father died and planted a new block of Marsellesa alongside the 15-year-old Typica trees. He and his wife Elizabeth do all the pruning, weeding, harvesting and processing themselves, with help from family at harvest, and their 11-year-old son Archivaldo is expected to carry the work on.”
