“The coffee-growing region of Cajamarca in northern Peru has mountains, valleys, steep slopes, and hardworking people. On his 5-hectare farm in the Shimania area of the Andean Cordillera, Don Neptaly Santos and his wife Liliana Heredia produce award-winning specialty coffee. Neptaly is a cooperative leader who learned from key figures in the Chirinos coffee sector, while Liliana participates in the women's program at Pawquara. They grow Gesha, Wush Wush, Caturra, Bourbon, and Pache. The community of Caserio Shimania practices mingas—shared work among relatives and friends—to improve coffee quality together.”
