“Maria is a second-generation coffee farmer from a Popti Mayan community in Concepción Huista, Huehuetenango. After years working as a labourer she inherited this land from her parents 15 years ago, and farms T'zun Witz at 1,760-1,835 masl with Caturra and Bourbon. She trained with the El Sendero cooperative to run a manual pulping machine and to dry her coffee in the sun for six days; the cooperative, formed in 2016, counts 196 members and focuses on gender equality and young producers.”
