“Coffee Story Francy Burbano grows her coffee on her small farm, Finca Buenavista, in the rural township of El Tabor, San Agustín. San Agustín is located in the southern part of the acclaimed coffee region of Huila (one of our most adored regions) and is renowned for its archaeological heritage, exceptional specialty coffee producers, and coffee-growing history. Nestled in the Andean mountains, this region's terroir benefits from a combination of altitude, volcanic soils, and an ideal microclimate, making it one of Colombia's most distinguished coffee-growing zones. This was Francy's first year participating in an annual regional coffee competition, Copa de Oro. The goal of the competition is to incentivize producers to improve quality not only by creating a competition to be won, but also by paying higher prices for the higher-scoring coffees. This year, Francy entered her highly sought-after Pink Bourbon microlots. The origin of the Pink Bourbon variety is a little mysterious. The green coffee itself is quite small, long, and thin, and the cup profile is more akin to that of a Typica, Gesha, or Ethiopian Landrace variety than to that of a Bourbon.
