Highlights
“Kayon Mountain covers 500 hectares about 300 of them planted with coffee, in the Shakiso district of Guji, Oromia, between the towns of Taro and Sewana. Ismael Hassen Aredo and his family have owned and run the farm since 2012, with 25 permanent staff and up to 300 seasonal pickers; they pay above local rates, run their own nursery, shade the coffee with acacias and native trees and use the prunings for compost. For this natural lot the cherries are selected and cleaned on the day of harvest, then dried on raised beds and turned frequently for 8 to 25 days. The lot is certified organic and Dalston recommends it for espresso and moka.”
