Highlights
“Kii factory sits within sight of Mt. Kenya in Kirinyaga, and was part of the Ngiriama Cooperative Society until that society dissolved; since 1997 it has belonged to the Rungeto FCS. The factory receives cherry from 80 farmer members growing SL28, SL34, Batian and Ruiru 11 at 1,600-1,800 masl. Cherries are sorted before pulping, fermented overnight, then washed and graded, with the parchment dried on tables for 8-14 days. Kii also encourages members to compost discarded coffee fruit as fertiliser and to recycle the water used for pulping.”
