Highlights
“Gisagara is Rwanda's cherry country, and this lot comes out of a social enterprise rather than a single estate. In 2014 the NGO Good Neighbors set up Café de Gisagara to fix the two things holding smallholders back: no cash until the cherries had sold, and thin know-how in the field. Six years on, average yield per tree has climbed from 1.13 kg to 3.5 kg. Red Bourbon grown at 1,600 to 1,800 m and washed at the Dahwe station, scored 85 and roasted for espresso: plum, mandarin, black tea and cane sugar.”
